Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What exactly is manscaping?
A: Manscaping is the art of men’s grooming and more specifically body hair removal, or body hair trimming. Most common today manscaping is often the reference to Manzilans, also known as Brozilans, Boyzilians, Mankini’s, Mozilans, Guyzilians, or Intimate waxing which is the removal and/or trimming of hair in the male pubic region.
Q: What is a Brazilian then?
A: Brazilian is the same procedure as a Manzilan only for a female.
Q: What kind of wax do you use?
A: At Aesthetics for Men we use a 99% natural Sugar Waxing product for hair removal. Also available is traditional wax for eye brow waxing, nose and ears.
Q: So what is this natural Sugar Wax you use?
A: Well, without giving you any of my trade secrets about my product, lets just say it is a modified body sugar product. I can however guarantee that it IS still a natural product, and will remove even the toughest body hair, in record time. It is safe to use on any type of skin including very sensitive skin.
Q: Does it hurt?
A: Compared to traditional waxes and body sugaring, my method is much gentler on the skin and doesn’t hurt like the others. The biggest difference is the prep and my proprietary technique which is faster and much more efficient than any other manual hair removal method on the market today.
Q: How should I prepare for my hair removal?
A: Dependent upon which service you will be having, I will text you the instructions upon confirmation of your appointment, however all areas to be waxed will benefit from moisturizing the day before, giving at least 8 hours prior to your appt. (please do not moisturize the day of the appointment please!) Also please note that caffeine, stimulants and drugs can affect your waxing experience, please refrain if possible 6 hours prior to appt. Also please ensure you EAT before your treatment. Neither of us want your teeth chattering from low blood sugar half way through your treatment.
Q: How long does the hair need to be?
A: The hair must be at minimum 6-7 mm or at least a ¼ inch, but 1/2 inch or 12-13 mm is better. If its too long, I may trim it. Please do NOT trim prior to treatment.
Q: Will I get ingrown hairs?
A: Absolutely NOT. Traditional wax is more prone to producing ingrown hairs as the technique of pulling against the grain will cause hairs to get broken at the surface level, and creats a blunt end that cannot poke through the skin once growing. However with Sugar Wax, breakage is rare. Sometimes a buildup of dead skin cells can cause ingrown hairs on some people (which has nothing to do with epilation) and if this is the case, I will advise you on what to do.
Q: How long before I see new hairs?
A: After your very first appt you will generally see some hairs at the surface at about 3 weeks. This is not actually regrowth but simply the next hairs in the follicle that are now coming to the surface. In order to semi-permanently retard future hair growth you must redo within 4-5 weeks. With each subsequent visit the density will be considerably less and less until there will be almost nothing coming back. By the 4th appointment most people can experience up to an 80% reduction!
Q: I don’t want all the hair removed, do you do partial manzilans?
A: Of course I will remove as much or as little hair as you like, but the cost remains the same. The reason is that “just the shaft and sack” is what takes most of the time, product and labor. For those who do not want the top hair removed, I offer trimming. Of course this is included in the price. Please note that I cannot trim the shaft or the scrotum or between the cheeks due to possible nipping. That hair has to be removed.
Q: What do I do if I get an erection?
A: This happens and is not an issue if you are a gentleman about it. Unfortunately for the few that aren’t, I must write in this disclaimer. Please be advised that my studio is completely professional and any sexual connotations, lewd comments, or funky body language will be unwelcome and will result in your service being halted immediately.
Q: Do you shave backs or do you shave the manzilan area?
A: Sorry, no. Unfortunately using razors (even if its your own) can cause safety concerns. Trimming with clippers and shavers is what I offer, but we can go as low as right to the skin with the clippers.
Q: Do you do body hair trimming elsewhere then?
A: Yes I do. I offer body hair trimming for all body parts except the head or facial hair, scrotum, shaft or butt crack.
Q: Do you remove head hair?
A: I remove nose hair, ear hair and I can do your brows, but I really do not recommend waxing head hair as I do not know of any wax product that can remove men’s head hair safely. In my experience, it leaves a lot behind (which means you have to redo it) and its SUPER painful! I’ve done it, so trust me, DON’T believe those stupid you tube videos. they’re fake.
Q: Am I draped for hair removal?
A: Yes, clients are all always draped with sheets for any hair removal below the belt. We don’t drape for back, chest or arm treatments.
Q: What is a bacial?
A: A bacial is basically a facial for the back, chest or legs or wherever else there may be plugged pores or ingrown hairs. This treatment is focused on deep cleansing and does not offer any massage like a regular facial. This is to allow all the service time to work on the blemishes.
Q: What is the best way to make an appointment or cancellation?
A: Fastest way to get in touch is with text (as I am often with clients and cannot answer phone calls.) If you do leave a voice mail, please mention when you called (date and time) as I do not have that feature on my voicemail.
